(no subject)
Jul. 24th, 2013 08:18 pmI have returned from the great beyond, also known as the Davis Mountains where my crew was building a fireline in preparation for a prescribed burn. All in all, it was a good trip, though we had to wonder . . .
WHY THE HECK DOES EVERYTHING IN THIS AREA WANT TO HURT US?!!!
The juniper were prickly and gave us rashes. The yucca were pointy. The sotol were even more pointy but less sharp. The cat's claw has viscious leaves and don't even get me started on the mesquite. The volcanic rock on the slopes was a pain and there were a truly impressive number of different cactus species. I made the massive mistake of tripping over one when I looked up to talk to Jon.
No snakes though which was nice. Surprising but nice all the same. It definitely looked like rattler country. Someone left a prompt on my DC/MK collection and I even have an idea for it. But I didn't feel so good after work today (note to self. drink more water and don't forget the salt) so it hasn't gotten written yet.
It will be up by this weekend though so keep your eyes open.
